Recently I had to have two filling in my top back teeth.  I did not have dental insurance at the time and had to pay cash.  When I got him the Novacain started to wear off and I started to notice that my teeth with the new filling where now extremely sensitive to the touch.

When I those teeth with my tongue or bite into any food it hurts, but when I am doing nothing, they do not hurt.  I called my dentist and he said that they were just sensitive because of the fillings and that if it does not go away in a week then I may need a root canal.
