Question:  I am an independent contractor out here in Phoenix AZ. My medical insurance is though my wife plan she get at work. However we do not have dental insurance. We would like a dental PPO plan so we can see our dentist but do all PPO plans have long term waiting periods.
Answer: Most dental PPO plans do come with plan waiting periods average is 6 months for basic dental services and 12 months for majors with preventive dental care being effective at the effective date of the plan. However waiting periods will very depending on the plan and you may find a dental PPO plan that does not have waiting periods. Though make sure you read the plans terms and conditions. Often times PPO plans without waiting periods are limiting your coverages in other ways within the first year of the plan.

Question: I was refer to a dentist by my best friend and I am wanting to go to them since I do not current have a dentist and this one seems to be really good. The problem is my current dental insurance I have they are not a provider of so I would not have any insurance benefits if I do go to them. Should I just cancel my current plan for one that they are a provider of? Or just go to a dentist on my plan.
Answer: Well that would be something you would need to answer for yourself. However, before cancelling out your current dental insurance plan I would make sure that you are fully aware of the terms and conditions of any new dental plan you buy. Such as PPO and free choice of provider plans come with waiting periods and other limitations that can restrict your coverages with in the first year or more.
Where as HMO and Dental discount plans have few limitations but like your current dental insurance plan you will need to see a plan provider. Talk to the dental office that you wish to do to and find out what plan they are a provider of and go from their. Review each dental insurance plan carefully so you pick what best fits your needs.

Supplemental dental insurance is an individual or family insurance policy purchased to cover a portion of the dental costs. Supplemental dental insurance will normally not cover the entire dental care procedure.
If you have a primary dental insurance plan that you purchased or your employer provided, the supplemental dental policy typically covers the remaining dental bill. For example, if the dental plan policy covers half of the dental cost, the secondary or supplement dental insurance plan should cover the remaining balance of your dental procedure.
A supplement dental insurance plan may also be purchased to cover the dental charges when there are annual dental benefit plan limits or exclusions.

Question: I am currently living in New York and I have been reviewing many different dental discount plans that seem to be all over the place. Your site looks good and does offer very good information about dental care. I am leaning towards your DentalSave Discount Dental Plan. I like that it is low cost and seems to be better then a few other discount plans I review.  I never bought anything online and have to admit I am a little leery about doing so. Is there anything I should know before buying a dental discount plan?
Answer: When buying a dental discount plan you have to go to dentist that are plan providers. Make sure you have a dentist in the plan that you want to go to. Call the dental office up and confirm that they are still accepting the plan in question. You may also want to ask a few questions that are important to you so you can feel good about the dental discount plan you are buying

If you belong to a professional association, you might be eligible for a dental insurance or discount dental plan. Many associations partner with a PPO to provide their members with dental plans that offer very comprehensive insurance coverage at more affordable prices.
Finally, dental schools may offer affordable dental services. Dental schools seem to be safe, but can be inconvenient and treatment for one problem may have to be addressed in multiple office visits.

You can obtain quotes for more affordable dental insurance plans from companies online and through your local insurance agent or broker. Please keep in mind that there are many web sites who give the appearance of selling dental insurance but instead only offer a dental discount plan which is not insurance.
Your dentist may also have affordable dental plan options available to patients. Ask the receptionist if they partner with a dental plan company and see if one might be right for you.

Affordable dental insurance plans from an HMO have a limited pool of dentist to select, but it is a more affordable insurance plan. If you are self employed and looking for a more affordable dental plan, a discount dental plan may be an alternative.
Discount dental plans are not dental insurance plans. A discount plan partners with dentists to provide customers with a savings on visits to the dentist office. The downside to discount dental plans is that they are not regulated and you have limited recourse if you experience dental plan problems.

According to the National Association of Dental Plans, approximately half of the U.S. population does not have an affordable dental plan. The cost for affordable dental insurance can vary. Therefore, it is important to understand all your options in obtaining the most affordable dental plan coverage.
The company where you work may provide the most affordable dental insurance plan options. Dental insurance plans for individual and families are usually an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) or a PPO (Preferred Provided Organization) and operate much like traditional health insurance organizations.

Question: My husband currently has a dental bridge, however it is old and needs to be replaced. However If we can afford to get him dental implants we rather have implants compared to a new dental bridge.  We know they can be costly and they are not covered under our current dental plan. Are there any dental plans that provides some coverages towards the cost of dental implants?
Answer: Many dental insurance plans do not provide dental benefits towards the cost of dental implants. You may want to review dental discount plans as a way of reducing the cost of having dental implants. If a dental discount plan has a dentist that does implants then the savings can run around 15 to 20 percent.

Question: My eight year may need to have braces in the future. My current dental plan will only pay out $200.00 a year for four years. I guess that is better then nothing but not much better.
Is there any way I can get another dental plan for her so that if we do get her braces I can have better benefits, or I will be able to combine both plans to get better savings off the cost of my child’s braces?
Answer: When talking about combining two plans to share the cost of your child braces you may have a hard time either finding companies that will combine or that is cost effective to combine.
You may be better off finding one dental insurance plan that provides better coverages for your child braces. I suggest looking at dental HMO offers since generally they are lower cost plans that do not have waiting periods. Also many PPO plans are very restrictive with regards to orthodontic services.

The suggested advise is that a person should brush their teeth twice a day for at least two minutes. This can be done in the morning (which most people will do to get rid of morning breath) and after dinner or before bed time. However if you stop their the job is only half done. For good dental habits do not forget to floss your teeth daily

Question: Due to putting off needed dental care, I have very bad teeth. The main cause for this is that I hate dentist. I just hate going and have anyone poking in my mouth. I can not say I a scared of them I just do not like dentist in general.
Although I do brush often my good friend told me my breath has been getting bad. I felt bad that she would say this but besides bad breath my teeth are also starting to hurt me off and on though out the day.
I need a dental insurance plan in place so that at least I will have something to help me with regard to the cost. Can you advise me on what would be a good coverage plan that will help me the best with major dental work.
Answer: It can depend on what you may need to have done at this point. You would want a dental discount plan if you think you will need to see dental specialist for any reason. Dental HMO many not cover you to see a specialist or may require a referral from the general dentist you picked with in the plan putting your dental care out a little longer for that process. However, as long as a general dentist can do the work you may have greater saving choosing an HMO dental insurance plan compared to a discount plan.

Question: When I am searching for dental insurance quotes how do I know I am getting the best rates? I have seen website that offering the what seems to be the same plan but with different cost for the plan. I am not understanding how a dental plan could cost $25.00 a month an on one site where as on another site the same dental plan could cost $15.00 a month.  If this is the cost how do I know I am buying the plan at the best rate?
Answer: It will just come down to shopping it out and making the best choice for you. Sometime price of the same plan can be different if the agent (website) has included additional processing fees.
That may not always be the case, you may just be looking at two different plans but thought they where the same. Many companies offer more then just one plan. So if you are just going by the name ( such as Delta dental) that dose not mean they are the same plans. I suggest taking your time and reviewing each plans details carefully, and remember if you have any questions about any of the plans we have to offer just call our member service line at 310-534-3444 as they will be happy to help.

Is there a way of comparing what they say your discount rate is to real dentist cost to know that you are truly getting good saving off the plan?
Answer: Discount dental plans are designed to help reduce your over all dental cost. Do they save you money? Yes dental discount plans do what they say the do they help reduce your total dental care cost. You only need to start calling around a few dentist stating you do not have insurance and get a quote based on that to see for a $10.00 a month or less dental discount plan it is truly saving you money off your dental care needs.
I suggest that you review the plans in question and call the dentist under the plans to confirm they are still accepting the plan. If you do that you should not have any problems with buying a dental discount plan.

Question: I seem to get bad breath late at night. I do not know why when I brush my teeth all the time. It is starting to make me feel insecure.
Answer: People can have bad breath for many different reasons. Even though you are brushing your teeth at night your bad breath can be due to other reasons such as what you are eating throughout the day, dental decay, medications you may be taking, your diet, dry mouth and any ongoing illnesses.   If you are not already, make sure that during your dental habits routine to brush not only your teeth but your tongue as well. Your tongue holds onto many bad breath causing germs. Try using an alcohol free mouthwash. If your bad breath continues talk to your dentist and see what they can advise.
