In order to receive the best dental care possible it is up to you to communicate with your dentist your dental needs.  Here are some helpful tips.
1) Dentist will sometime talk in dental terms you many not understand. They assume if you are not asking any questions it because you understand what is being told to you. If you dentist is suggesting dental services that you do not understand ask questions until you do. If you are not sure why you need a suggested dental service do not hesitate to ask why.
2) If you speak a different languish then then dentist bring someone with you if necessary that can help translate and make things clearer for you to understand.
3) When booking a dental appointment, let them know you may have questions for the dentist and for them to book in the additional time necessary .
4) Do not keep your dentist in the dark. Many dentist will have you fill out a medical health form. It is important that you complete it and be upfront about any medical conditions. Such as if you have heart disease, diabetes or high blood pressure the dentist needs to know this since gum care will be extra important to maintain.
5) If you have dental fears let your dentist know ahead of time. That way they can take the time needed to address your fears.

With the current economy many people do not receive dental benefits though their jobs and can not afford the high cost of dental care without it. Here are some tips that will help to keep your dental cost low.
1) If you do not receive dental benefits though your job, see about buying either dental insurance plan or a dental discount plans. In most states there are low cost dental insurance plans as well as dental discount plan that are affordable and will help to keep your dental care cost low.
2) Dental care starts from home. This is important fact and what does help to keep your dental care cost low. Proper preventive dental care habits at home will save you from larger more costly dental issues. Brush and floss daily. Use mouthwash that has tarter control and stay always from sugary sweets.
3) Even on very tight budgets, most 99 cent or dollar stores stock toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss and mouthwash. You do not have to buy a $10 or more toothbrush and most dental floss is less then a dollar. In many cases you can even go to a local dental office and get toothbrush and floss for free.
4) Seeing a dentist at least twice a year is important part of preventive dental care. Most dental insurance plans offer preventive dental services for free. Dental discount plans offer very low cost for preventive dental care services. By seeing a dentist regularly for preventive dental care, your dentist will be able to catch any dental issues while they are still minor. As we all know the bigger the dental issue the higher the cost to fix. Proper preventive dental care will keep your dental cost low and more affordable.
5) If you are low income and do not receive or have dental benefits, and can not afford even a low cost dental insurance and or plan, there is still options available to you by using your state resources. See if you have any dental clinics or dental schools near you. Both options will normally work around what you can afford for dental care. The American Dental Association website provides information on free dental care programs that run throughout the year.

Back in 2007 a 12 year old boy dies from an untreated tooth infection. The infection had spread to his brain and despite under going two brain surgeries, this the young boy passed away. This is not the first time a child or an adult has die from an untreated tooth infection. Sadly its more then likely not the last time either.
There are still many people in the U.S. that feel that having proper dental care is secondary and not  important in their over all heath care. Many people that receive dental benefits though their employment still do not see a dentist regularly. This is normally due to cost, stating that even with their benefits their co-pay for dental services is either too high or they just can not afford to spend their money on dental care. (Even though many dental insurance plans offer preventive dental services for free.)
Many more people do not receive dental benefits and go without dental insurance, since they can not afford the high cost of having dental insurance on their own. Making it very hard for them to afford even preventive dental care.      Tragedy like the 12 year old boy dose not have to happen. In most states there are low cost dental insurance and dental plans for individuals and their family. These plans can start as low as $15.00 a month. If cost is still an issue, there are other options for dental care such as dental schools and dental clinics.   Just by having proper preventive dental care at home and at a dentist, you can help to avoid having larger dental issues such. It is important for people to stop putting dental health care on the back burner, or these types of unnecessary tragedies will continue to happen.

In the past a you if you got a cavity and the dentist would fix it with a filling. Now however dentist can often use treatments to stop tooth decay before a cavity even develops. Tooth decay often provides signs before it actually causes a cavity in your tooth. Your dentist looks for these sign such as white spot on the tooth enamel or any suspicious spots on your X-rays.
In this situation, if your dentist sees a suspicious spot on a tooth or on your X-ray, the proper treatment may not be “drilling and filling.” But instead the dentist could paint fluoride varnish or calcium pastes on the problem tooth. These treatments often can stop or slow down the decay process. They also help the tooth to repair the area where the cavity was forming. This process is known as remineralization.
During this type of dental treatment you may have to see the dentist more often during the next few months of treatment. At these visits the dentist would check to see if the treatment is working and may treat the tooth again.  A dentist can not catch the early signs of tooth decay if you do not see a dentist regularly so in order to maintain healthy teeth and gums brush and floss daily and see your dentist at least twice a year or as advise by your dentist .

Many people over the age of 55 are now regretting that they may not have taken the best care of their teeth when they were younger. Research shows that six out of ten people age 55 and over in the UK regret not taken better care of their teeth.
Around one in five people in the UK wear full or partial dentures and an estimated 2.5 million people have no natural teeth. Despite oral health improving significantly in recent decades many people born in the 1960s and earlier lived in an era when oral health education was not widely available and their oral health has suffered.

My son is ten he has a large size cavity in one of his back molars.  The dentist he is currently seeing is telling me he needs to have a crown put on his tooth. I see no point of putting a crown on a baby tooth. I asked if he could not just have a filling done since I can not afford a crown. He stated to me that he could do a filling but since the cavity is so large, my son may crack the tooth later on. I really only want the filling and told him I would think about it and get back to him. I feel he trying to charge me for a much more costly dental service, instead of just doing the filling. Anyone had to have a crown done on a baby tooth just because the cavity was large?

My son is three years old and he does not care for anyone new. It does takes him a while for him not to be worry of any new person. However he is due for his first dental appointment and I just found out that the dentist will not let me stay with my son why he is getting his check up. I think this is going to be a big issue for my son and I want to be there with him. Is this normal? Or should I search for a different dentist?

My son is sixteen and living with his mom. I need to provide dental insurance for him and I looking to buy dental insurance just for my son.  I see that plans offer individual dental quotes but can you buy the plan only for a minor or does an adult need to be listed on the plan? Would rather not have to get insurance for a couple cost since cost is a large factor for me right now.
