If your child has a toothache, you will want to first, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Give the child acetaminophen for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Finally, see a dentist as soon as possible.

If posible you may want to compare dental insurance through work if you can. Most employers who offer dental insurance pay half or more of the premium cost, and most plans fully cover exams, X-rays, and cleanings, 80 percent of basic procedures such as fillings, and 50 percent of major work such as crowns. Still be careful in comparing dental insurance though work and what you may buy as an indiviual on your own. Cost may be less but make sure to compare coverages/benitfits as well to make sure you are getting the best option.

Question: My son is only four month with no teeth yet. However I want to take him to a dentist I know but she only take PPO dental insurance plans. Should I get the PPO plan now or when he has teeth ?
Answer: Well that is up to you and what you feel will work best for you and your son. However you may want to take note that PPO dental insurance plans have will normally have waiting periods for both basic and major dental care services. Also many PPO plans will not let you buy the plan just for a minor child which means you would need to buy at least a couple plan with you and your son listed. As long as you read and understand the plan limitations, when you choose to buy it is up to you.

How do you go about finding a dental insurance plan that works the best for dental care needs? Below are a few tips that may help you with your search and get you going down the right path.
* Estimate your current and future dental needs. Consider whether you or a family member will need major dental work or oral surgery. Or maybe you just want basic, preventive care like regular checkups and cleanings. Having a idea of your dental care needs will help you avoid plans with waiting periods if you need major services now or within the near future.
* Find a plan your dentist accepts. If you have a particular dentist you would like to continue seeing, then it is important to check and see that she or he is a provider of the dental insurance plan you are considering, or that you are buying a dental insurance plan that lets you choose any dentist you wish to go to.
* Consider your budget and how much you are comfortable paying. Decide whether you would prefer to pay premiums and co-pays over time, or pay the full amounts to the dentist all at once.

The term “full coverage” can mean different things to different people, and it is a term can be miss leading. For some, “full coverage” means a dental insurance plan that covers basic services like routine checkups, cleaning and X-rays. Where as for others they expect a full-coverage plan to reduce the cost of any dental services they may need. Taking it a step father there are even some people that think “full coverage” means they do not have to pay for any dental services render. Yet with that said all dental insurance plans have limitations and exclusions not ever thing is covered.
Choosing a plan that is right for you depends on many factors, including the ages and number of people in your family, and whether you or a family member needs specialty services like orthodontic care. When searching for dental insurance take “full coverage’s” out and search for a plan the best fits yours or your family dental care needs.

What to look for in choosing the best dental plan for you and or you and your family.
* Price: For many price can be a factor, compare several dental insurance plans for the best competitive price.
* Price/Coverage’s: Price of the dental insurance plan is important but don’t forget about the plans coverage’s. I higher cost plan may still not prove lower dental care cost. Same as a lower cost plan may provide you with benefits needed at a lower cost to you. Make sure you look at the total picture when reviewing dental insurance plans.
* Dental Providers: I you choose a network only plan you want to make sure that plan has a large enough selection of providers in your given area that you are willing to travel to. This is important in case you ever want to change a different provider. The fewer dentist available to you the fewer options you have if you want to make a change.
* Know your Needs: It is really important when searching for the “Best” dental insurance plan that you know your own dental care needs, or at least have some idea of what you may need. Such as getting a new PPO plan when you need a crown may not be the best option since many PPO plans will come with waiting periods for such dental care services. Knowing what you need in a plan will help you shop wiser there by making it easier for you to find the plan that will best fit you and or you and your family dental care needs.

In a prior post we talked about how dental insurance benefits may not cover for specialist and the dental insurance plans that do will normally offer less coverage for specialist then they do for family/general dentist. It is especially important to keep in mind when you have children under that age of five. Since many of your family/general dentists will not provider services for children under the age of five. Pediatric dentist are specialist and therefore you will need to fully under stand your insurance plans terms and conditions for specialist services.

Question: My eight year may need to have braces in the future. My current dental plan will only pay out $200.00 a year for four years. I guess that is better then nothing but not much better. Is there any way I can get another dental plan for her so that if we do get her braces I can have better benefits, or I will be able to combine both plans to get better savings off the cost of my child’s braces?
Answer: When talking about combining two plans to share the cost of your child braces you may have a hard time either finding companies that will combine or that is cost effective to combine. You may be better off finding one dental insurance plan that provides better coverages for your child braces. I suggest looking at dental HMO offers since generally they are lower cost plans that do not have waiting periods. Also many PPO plans are very restrictive with regards to orthodontic services.

Question: Due to putting off needed dental care, I have very bad teeth. The main cause for this is that I hate dentist. I just hate going and have anyone poking in my mouth. I can not say I a scared of them I just do not like dentist in general. Although I do brush often my good friend told me my breath has been getting bad. I felt bad that she would say this but besides bad breath my teeth are also starting to hurt me off and on though out the day. I need a dental insurance plan in place so that at least I will have something to help me with regard to the cost. Can you advise me on what would be a good coverage plan that will help me the best with major dental work.
Answer: It can depend on what you may need to have done at this point. You would want a dental discount plan if you think you will need to see dental specialist for any reason. Dental HMO many not cover you to see a specialist or may require a referral from the general dentist you picked with in the plan putting your dental care out a little longer for that process. However, as long as a general dentist can do the work you may have greater saving choosing an HMO dental insurance plan compared to a discount plan.

Question: When I am searching for dental insurance quotes how do I know I am getting the best rates? I have seen website that offering the what seems to be the same plan but with different cost for the plan. I am not understanding how a dental plan could cost $25.00 a month an on one site where as on another site the same dental plan could cost $15.00 a month. If this is the cost how do I know I am buying the plan at the best rate?
Answer: It will just come down to shopping it out and making the best choice for you. Sometime price of the same plan can be different if the agent (website) has included additional processing fees. That may not always be the case, you may just be looking at two different plans but thought they where the same. Many companies offer more then just one plan. So if you are just going by the name ( such as Delta dental) that dose not mean they are the same plans. I suggest taking your time and reviewing each plans details carefully, and remember if you have any questions about any of the plans we have to offer just call our member service line at 310-534-3444 as they will be happy to help.

Answer: Discount dental plans are designed to help reduce your over all dental cost. Do they save you money? When should I replace my Dental Fillings?
Please be aware that whenever you remove and replace dental fillings, there is always the chance that a tooth could be damaged during the process, especially where the filling is particularly large and/or deep. But no one wants to go to the dentist and replace dental fillings that seem to be in perfect working order. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to replace dental fillings, but it can be well worth the effort. Fillings are made to last as long as possible, but they still only last for so long.
On average, 15 years seems to be about the limit for most fillings. How do I know when it is time to replace my dental fillings, how do I know when they are worn out. Gold, silver, white, whatever your dental fillings look like, most likely they will not last for the rest of your life and will need to be replaced. The true gold fillings, which were called gold foil, were pounded into teeth and were very tightly packed.
The longer bad fillings stay in your mouth, the more likely you will need crowns and root canals to restore the teeth. If the existing fillings are not too big and there is enough healthy tooth, then the fillings can be replaced with new ones. Leaving old dental fillings in place can also harm your gums, since they can trap the plaque which causes gum disease. Examination and x-rays are used to evaluate dental fillings. You will not be able to tell on your own when your fillings start to fail. Everything wears out and your dental fillings are no exception.

I like your plans where it says I can choose my own dentist. Is that true I go go to any dentist I want? I called my dentist the office says that would send a billing claim to any I want but it would be on me if they do not accept them. I can I make sure that the dental company will acept a claim from my dentist?
Reply: Yes on any of our dental insurance plan options that we have to offer that states you can choose your own dentist, that is just what you can do. You can go to any dentist you want because it is either a PPO that will let you go outside their network of providers and Insurance plan that does not have a provider data base. Therefore allowing you do choose who you want.
