A growing body of evidence questions the need for this procedure. According to Dr J Friedman DDS in a Study published in The American Journal of Public Health, over two-third of cases of wisdom tooth extractions are completely unnecessary. That only 12% of wisdom teeth actually cause an acute issue somewhere down the road that requires the attention of a dentist to resolve. Understanding your own dental health needs is important in order to have the best dental care. However it is also just as important when buying dental insurance so that you can get the best dental insurance plan that best fits your dental health needs. When shopping for dental insurance make a check list of things you want in a dental insurance plan.
Do you want to stay with a dental provider? If so then you should know before shopping for a dental insurance which plans they are a provider of. There is no point in reviewing dental HMO Insurance plans or any dental discounts plans if your dentist is not a provider of those types of plans. Since under these types of plans there is no outside network coverage’s or benefits.
Write down your dental care needs? Before shopping for dental insurance have an idea what you think your dental needs are. If you know you need crown work done, buying a dental plan that has long term waiting periods may not work out very well. Like wise if you know you need $3000.00 plus in dental work buying a plan with a $1000.00 annual max limitation may not make the best sense. Take your time read each dental insurance plan to make sure that what you are buying will best fit your dental needs.

Question: When comparing dental insurance with dental discount plans what are the real dental coverage difference? I shopping out my current dental insurance plan because it is costing me more and more each year and I only have a $1000.00 max pretty soon at the rate it is going it will not even be worth having at all.
Reply: Dental discount plans do not have any waiting period, deductibles or yearly max limits like some dental insurance plan do. They also will give you a discount saving off or any dental service you have render as long as you are going to a plan provider. I would suggest looking more into dental discount plans if you are currently not happy with the dental insurance plan you have, however it is important to note: That with a dental discount plan you have to go to plan providers which may mean changing to a different dental office.
