After having a root canal done, the dentist put on a temp crown stating I would need to come back for my more permanent crown. But since at the time I could not afford a permanent crown I never went back. Now three months latter the temp crown fell off and I think I may have also broke a part of what was left of the tooth. Now I have a hole in my tooth. My appoint is in three more days. The dentist was going to put the new crown on. What will he do now?
Reply: Well it just depends if you broke any part of the tooth or not. Hopefully you only lost a part of the build up. The dentist can redo that and put on your new crown.
However, hard to say until you see the dentist three days is not too much longer to wait, though you do not want to run the risk of doing any more damage to the tooth. I would call the dental office and see if they advise you to come in sooner.
Also you if cost is a factor for a new crown you may want to think about getting either a dental HMO insurance plan or a dental discount plan. Both of these plan options are low in cost and will help reduce your cost for a crown.

Supplemental dental insurance is an individual or family insurance policy purchased to cover a portion of the dental costs. Supplemental dental insurance will normally not cover the entire dental care procedure.
If you have a primary dental insurance plan that you purchased or your employer provided, the supplemental dental policy typically covers the remaining dental bill. For example, if the dental plan policy covers half of the dental cost, the secondary or supplement dental insurance plan should cover the remaining balance of your dental procedure.
A supplement dental insurance plan may also be purchased to cover the dental charges when there are annual dental benefit plan limits or exclusion

If you belong to a professional association, you might be eligible for a dental insurance or discount dental plan. Many associations partner with a PPO to provide their members with dental plans that offer very comprehensive insurance coverage at more affordable prices.
Finally, dental schools may offer affordable dental services. Dental schools seem to be safe, but can be inconvenient and treatment for one problem may have to be addressed in multiple office visits.

Affordable dental insurance plans from an HMO have a limited pool of dentist to select, but it is a more affordable insurance plan. If you are self employed and looking for a more affordable dental plan, a discount dental plan may be an alternative.
Discount dental plans are not dental insurance plans. A discount plan partners with dentists to provide customers with a savings on visits to the dentist office. The downside to discount dental plans is that they are not regulated and you have limited recourse if you experience dental plan problems.

Question: How do I know what would be the best dental plan for me?Â
Answer: You want to review your current dental needs first. Such as are you already seeing a dentist that you would prefer to stay with? If so then find out what dental insurance plans they are a provider of.
Do you currently need major dental care work to be done? If so an HMO dental insurance plan may be best for you since they normally do not have long term waiting period before benefits are made effective.
Do you need to see a specialist such as a pediatric dentist for your young kids or an Endodontic dentist for a root canal etc. If so you want to make sure the plan you are buying provides benefits for specialist not all dental insurance plan do.
In order to find the best dental plan for you, understanding you own dental care needs and what you want from a plan is the key in buying the best dental insurance plan.

Question: I do not currently have dental insurance. However, I would like to start going to the dentist since it been a while since I last went. I been advised that I should get dental insurance first so my cost for dental services are more affordable. How does dental insurance work.
Answer: To answer your question correctly, it would depend on the type of dental plan you would want. There are four types of dental insurance and plans available, Dental PPO’s Dental HMO’s Dental Indemnity and Dental Discount plans.
Although PPO and Indemnity are similar they are not the same. That goes for HMO’s and Dental discount plans. I can say that all these types of dental insurance and plans do work to help save money on the cost of your dental care needs.
To be vague:  Dental insurance plans works in much the same way that health insurance works. For a stated monthly and or annual premium (rate), you are entitled to certain dental benefits under the plan which will usually include regular checkups, basic cleanings, x-rays, and certain services required to promote over all good general oral health.  Some plans will provide broader benefits and or coverages than others and may require a greater financial contribution on your part when services are rendered. Some plans may also provide coverage for certain types of oral surgery, treatment of gum disease, or orthodontia (braces) What is very important is that you take your time and read each plans terms and conditions so that you buy the plan that best fits your dental care needs.
In order to review our dental insurance and plan options just enter your zip code in the quote box provided above. If you should have any questions about any of our dental plan options just call member services at 310-534-3444 as they will be happy to help you.

Answer: Often times plans such as PPO’s do base their rates on your home zip code. So without knowing your zip code I can not confirm cost of the plans we provide only that I am sure we have dental insurance and plan options that would be much lower then what you are currently finding. Since in most state we offer dental discount plans that rage around $15.00 a month for couples and HMO insurance plans around 30.00 a month. We also have dental PPO plans that have competitive pricing. Just enter your zip code in the quote box provide above and review the different dental plan options. Question: I am looking for a dental insurance plan in California. What are some of the To best plans for me to review.  Would like something that does not have any annual limitations and no waiting periods as I have some dental needs I want to address right away.
Answer: There is really not a best dental insurance plan per say. Since the best dental plan would depend on the person needs and those needs are different for each person. However I would suggest to review dental HMO insurance plans since you stated you would like to have a dental plan without annual dollar maxim limitations and no waiting periods. Generally HMO insurance plans do not have those types of restrictions.

Did you know that tooth decay is one of the leading chronic infectious diseases among children? Untreated tooth decay causes pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing and learning. With that said however, tooth decay is also preventable.
Make sure your child maintains good at home dental care habits by brushing and flossing daily. Maintain regular dental checks ups with your child dentist. Your child dentist will be able to spot any minor dental care need before it turns into a larger dental care issue, if your child is seen regularly by his or her dentist.

Often times children under the age of five will need to go to a Pediatric dentist instead of a family or general dentist. That being the case if you have younger children you will want to make sure you either have a dental insurance plan or are buying a dental insurance plan that offer benefits on Pediatric (Specialist) dentistry.
Generally that would mean buying either a dental PPO or a dental Indemnity dental insurance plan. Although there are some HMO dental insurance plans that will provide saving off the cost of specialist they do not always have a broad range of specialist.  Therefore when buying and HMO dental insurance plan check to make sure there are Pediatric dentist in the plan network that you are able take your child to for his or her dental care needs.

Having dental insurance whether for yourself and your family is one main way to save on the cost of your dental care needs. Maintaining your dental health is important and as a parent keeping up on your kids dental care needs can become extremely costly when you do not have current dental insurance in place for your family.
With many dental insurance plans it is important to buy and have in place, before larger dental care needs have to be address. Since they often have waiting periods for both basic and major dental care services. Thinking and planing ahead will save you money and often time grief latter on.
